Currently, large-air-volume dust collectors are used to suck the air away from the worker and cleanse it. Hepa filtration, activated carbon filtration, or both, are used to purge the toxic components and particulate matter from the air. For reasons not completely understood, asthma is generally more common in poor urban neighborhoods, in cold climates, and in industrialized countries. Many cities issue public air quality warnings when ozone levels rise to dangerous levels. Dusty surfaces, stagnant water and damp materials provide an environment ripe for microbial growth. Most products made today do not contain asbestos. This result means, in effect, that nitrogen oxides from a fleet of sst's would be scavenged more rapidly than predicted and that operation of the planes might actually produce a slight increase in stratospheric ozone. Some states, notably california, have imposed tougher air pollution standards of their own. Models can only provide approximations, and some of the predictions based on these models often spark controversy within the science community.
